Welcome to Blog #1 of "Stay At Home Dad"! Hello, I'm Michael Wright, a cartoonist and author. "Stay At Home Dad" is my first cartoon strip and amazingly has been picked up by Creators Syndicate. Like the title, I'm a Stay At Home Dad too. The cartoon is about Bob Jacobsen, a newly laid off, husband and father of 2. Bob has to muster the enthusiasm to generate some sort of income from the confines of the spare bedroom/office inside his suburban home.
As for me, I'm married with 3 kids, and about 8 years ago I decided to follow my passion for drawing and writing. Back then, I found myself in a more traditional work environment, but decided to my hand and writing and illustrating a kids book. Fortunately, I found a publisher (Feiwel & Friends, a division of MacMillan) and got my first book "Jake Stays Awake" launched . I just finished my third book in the Jake series "Jake Goes Peanuts".
Now I'm broadening my focus to include the world of Stay At Home Dads. In coming blogs I'll share more cartoons and some marginally fascinating tidbits about myself. Feel free to let me know if you like direction the cartoon is going. If you've got personal stories or cartoon ideas please let me know... I might be able to work them into the strip.
Excited to be part of the Stay At Home Dad blogosphere. Talk to you later.
